Company History

Lucyol was founded in 1996 by experienced localization professionals, to meet the increasing demand for high quality, IT-specialized translation and localization services. We were immediately contacted by some of the largest international globalization providers, which subcontracted their projects to us on the strength of our quality, strong specialization and competitive rates. For Lucyol (unlike many of our competitors), IT is not just one field among many others. It's our business.

As our company grew and evolved, the nature of our offerings expanded as well (from highly specialized translation to software and website localization, multilingual DTP, to specialized training, etc.). In 2002, we continued to improve cost-efficiency for our customers through advanced project management and productivity solutions, never losing sight of our core business: IT-specialized localization.

In an industry undergoing frequent mergers and acquisitions, Lucyol is proud of its independence, resulting in a 63% average annual growth rate over the last 3 years. Furthermore, not many competitors can boast the fact that their original founder not only remains CEO, but also plays an important role in production and takes the time to personally consult with customers.

Some key dates in the company's history include:
2004
Encouraged by a 63% average annual growth rate over the last 3 years, Lucyol decides to enter in the process of setting up partnerships with a few leading European IT-specialized in-country partners, in order to start offering multilingual localization services to our customers.
2003
5 million word milestone is reached on Oracle courseware. To face the growing demand of our customers, we decide to set up a strategic partnership with a software localization engineering company.
2002
Development of several advanced project management and productivity tools, to lower costs and to improve quality and consistency. Lucyol's new Web site is launched.
2001
10 million word milestone is reached on Microsoft projects (over 50 products concerned). Due to the shortage of university education for truly specialized technical translation and software localization, Lucyol decides to set up our own "high-end" specialized translator training program, based on our tested and proven training material and teaching methods, originally developed to train our own staff.
2000
To keep pace with the growing workload, Lucyol moves to new offices to accommodate new staff.
1999
To assist our customers, Lucyol starts selecting potential IT-specialized localization partners for other languages, however without actually managing multi-language projects.
1998
After two years of uninterrupted assignments from various MLVs, we decide to take advantage of our reputation to successfully expand our business to our own direct customers.
1997
Lucyol implements (and continues to successfully operate) a unique, very strict selection process for its IT-specialized translation partners; as a result, fewer than 5% of applicants are added to our database of tested, Lucyol-certified translators.
1996
Jean-Luc Hofmann and Yolande Jiménez López found Lucyol as the first exclusively IT-specialized localization provider in France. Several globalization providers immediately recognize our specialization and select Lucyol as a preferred vendor for IT translations into French, for our ability to handle highly technical projects, especially on Microsoft localization projects and Oracle courseware. From the outset, we introduce translation memory tools to help increase quality and consistency.
