Quality Assurance

Individual quality responsibility is the cornerstone of our Quality Assurance process. Since its inception in 1996, Lucyol has operated to the highest quality standards in the IT localization industry. All of our team members are passionate about meeting and exceeding customer expectations (in terms of turnaround time, costs and quality) and are employed on performance-related contracts. Additionally, each of us has personal responsibility for meeting, maintaining and exceeding our customers' and our own high quality standards.

At Lucyol, quality is not a one-time effort to impress a new client. It is the essence of our mission statement. We have designed and implemented one of the most efficient QA processes in the IT localization industry. Achieving the highest technical and linguistic standards involves the following steps:
1. Careful selection of resources
Setting up the right team of highly product-specialized and experienced translators, based on the specific requirements of the project and customer, is the first step in quality assurance. All our resources undergo a very strict selection process. Fewer than 5% of the freelance translators who complete our tests are added to our database, which is probably the lowest proportion in the localization industry. For more information about our unique selection process, please review our Vendor Certification Process.

2. Mandatory use of glossaries and style guides
Customer-provided or on-demand created glossaries are used throughout the project to ensure consistency both within the translated text, and with the company's products and terminology. In addition, linguistic and stylistic consistency is ensured by using a style guide, which is a document that defines the linguistic, stylistic and terminological guidelines for a particular project. A style guide also makes it possible to maintain uniformity across successive projects, which speaks volumes to your customers about the quality of your products. If you do not possess a style guide, we can create one tailored to your particular needs, or use Lucyol's comprehensive Microsoft-compliant style guide to guarantee perfect consistency at all times.

3. Three-stage quality control
During the production phase, we use the following proven quality control process:
  • Editing and proofreading of translated text (spelling, grammar, style, consistency with source text, harmonization between translators, adherence to style guide, etc.)
  • Technical review of translated text (terminological accuracy, consistency, adherence to glossaries, expert understanding of technical concepts, etc.)
  • Quality control at various stages during the project and before final delivery, to ensure that the translation is consistent with both the industry's standards and your specifications
Detailed QA reports are sent to translators and reviewers, so that feedback can be taken into account before the next QA review, and in future projects. The translators and reviewers are individually responsible for implementing any corrections across all files, everywhere applicable, which helps improving quality from one project to another.

During QA, all translations are checked against 20 strict criteria, including accuracy, terminology, language and country standards. QA results are taken into account in our continuous resource assessment process.

IMPORTANT   Unlike many localization providers, we subject ALL translations to this strict process, and not just one or two samples. In addition, before a translation is edited and proofread, the translator himself has to proofread his/her own translation, and run the grammar- and spellchecker on it. Such details may seem trivial, but the typos and grammatical mistakes found in many products published globally by prestigious companies show that the spellchecker has not even been run. This is simply unacceptable for products that are generally localized by the largest international globalization providers.
